Bend it Like Beckham

From August 2003:

Name: Bend it Like Beckham
Directed By: Gurinder Chadha
Written By: Gurinder Chadha, Paul Mayeda Berges
Type: Drama, Comedy
Year: 2002
Starring: Parminder Nagra, Keira Knightley, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers

Jesminder Bhamra (Parminder) is a girl in love with soccer. She dreams to play professionally. There’s just one problem, her family is desi. The movie is about her fight against Indian traditions that prevent her from achieving her dreams.

I think the movie was okay; nothing great. There were plots, sub-plots and sub-sub-plots, and everything falls into place in the end. I didn’t “fancy” that.

Rating: 2.5 out of 10
I would have given it a 2, but the main actors acted well.
Watch it if you want, I’d stay away from this one.

  1. damn you were a harsh rater! it wasn’t a *bad* movie, as you said it was just okay, and yet it got a 2.5! what would a BAD movie get?? -3.8??

  2. i am still a harsh rater! i simply don’t put up the bad movie ratings all that much…

it was a bad movie, unfortunately i didn’t express that in the words up there. heh…

  3. Originally, it was written with a lesbian sub-plot but was changed as they thought it will not strike desi audience !!

I think it is a mediocare movie..

  4. ha, i actually enjoyed this movie. i thought it was fun, funny. nothing too major. certainly didn’t inspire enough hatred for a 2point5

  5. i’m with yasmine. this was my first knightley film and it was ok. but god, now she is everywhere and not even in a particularly enjoyable way.
    parminder nagra’s cool though.

  6. man, adnan, you really are a harsh critic. just as bad as yaser!

good lord, after reading your guys’ filum reviews, i’m starting to think i have NO standards for filums. =/

    loved this part:

    hahahaha
it’s like bollywood, yaara! what do you expect?

also, keira knightley annoys the hell out of me. this was the first movie i saw her in, so i was okay with her here, but i find her highly bothersome in everything after this one. she talks like she has lockjaw. ugh.

  8. i’ve only seen knightley in bend it like beckham and pirates of the caribbean…

i tried to watch atonement, but couldn’t watch it past the first 20 minutes…

i will watch pride and prejudice at some point…

    but in either case… that’s hardly everywhere… that’s just four movies…

    although pirates was a trilogy…
